From the field to the workshop
As Oceanscan’s Base NDT Technician in Houston, Jeremy plays a vital role in ensuring customers receive reliable, fully tested equipment when they need it most. His day-to-day responsibilities include calibrating, testing and repairing NDT systems, managing inventory and making sure equipment is ready to perform in the field.
Jeremy’s journey into non-destructive testing began before joining Oceanscan, working offshore and onshore in Houston. There, he carried out MRT inspections on crane and winch ropes and supported weld inspections using magnetic particle testing. The hands-on experience he gained offshore gave him first-hand insight into the environments where inspection equipment is relied upon every day.
To further develop his expertise, whilst at Oceanscan Jeremy has completed two ASNT NDT training programmes, gaining practical and classroom experience across a range of inspection methods including ultrasonic testing (UT), magnetic particle inspection (MPI), radiographic testing (CR/DR), liquid penetrant testing (PT) and visual testing (VT).
Today, he enjoys combining that field knowledge with a growing understanding of the technology behind the inspections. Learning how equipment operates, how it is maintained and how it supports customers in the field is one of the aspects of the role he finds most rewarding.
One of the things I enjoy most is learning the ins and outs of the tools I originally trained to use. Being able to understand how they work, maintain them and support customers with them has really expanded my knowledge.

An industry with endless opportunities
Looking ahead, Jeremy is keen to deepen his experience with eddy current inspection and gain more hands-on exposure to radiographic testing systems. He is also continuing to build his knowledge of the wider rental market and the diverse industries Oceanscan supports.
When asked what stands out about the NDT industry, Jeremy points to the opportunities for growth and the importance of the work being carried out every day.
As long as the world continues to build, develop and operate critical infrastructure, inspection will always be needed. It’s an industry with endless opportunities to learn and progress.

One of Jeremy’s most memorable experiences was his first trip offshore to a drilling rig, an experience he describes as life-changing and one that reinforced his passion for the industry.
Whether preparing equipment for deployment, supporting customers behind the scenes or expanding his own technical expertise, Jeremy’s focus remains the same: helping ensure every inspection project has the tools and support needed to succeed.
