Oceanscan opens state-of-the-art Aberdeen facility to support offshore demand across UK and Europe

Oceanscan Group has officially opened its new Aberdeen facility in Dyce, marking a significant milestone in the company’s continued expansion across Scotland, the UK and Europe.
The new 1,200m² site more than doubles Oceanscan’s operational footprint compared with its previous Bridge of Don base, which served as the company’s home for more than 35 years. The facility also brings together complementary capabilities from across the wider Venterra Group network under one roof, including those from INSPIRE Environmental and HPR, strengthening operational collaboration and service delivery.
Officially opened on 21 May by Oceanscan Group CEO Derek Donaldson, the facility welcomed more than 200 clients, partners and suppliers to tour the new energy efficient, industry-leading facility and a showcase of the company’s expanded capabilities.
The newly refurbished engineering facility features advanced NDT and state-of-the-art subsea calibration capabilities, enhancing Oceanscan’s ability to support offshore campaigns through faster mobilisation, improved local delivery and greater operational efficiency across the UK and European markets.
Designed with future growth in mind, the new site increases the team’s operational capacity at a time of rising offshore demand. Oceanscan’s Aberdeen workforce has grown to 57 employees, with space to support an additional 30 roles across its engineering, operations, sales and finance functions. Alongside parallel investment from INSPIRE Environmental, which is building its own local team in Aberdeen, this reflects Venterra’s broader commitment to growing capability, developing specialist skills and creating high-quality jobs in Scotland.
INSPIRE supports offshore infrastructure projects across the full lifecycle, from early survey and consenting through to construction and long-term monitoring. Its integrated services include benthic and fisheries science, underwater acoustics, Nature Based Design and advanced data services designed to help projects progress through clear, proportionate and defensible evidence.
HPR (Hire. Perform. Repeat.) provides competent and compliant personnel to the offshore energy sector, enabling safe and effective project resourcing.
Together, these companies, alongside other Venterra specialists including Partrac and GeoForce, form a complementary marine data services offering, supporting growth across UK and European markets.
Speaking at the opening event, Derek Donaldson said:
“This move represents an exciting leap forward for Oceanscan. We’ve built on years of work from our previous Bridge of Don base to create a facility that reflects both the momentum we’re seeing across Scotland, the UK and Europe, and the growing needs of our customers.
With more space, more equipment and enhanced capability under one roof, we’re ideally positioned to support offshore campaigns with the same friendly Oceanscan approach our clients know and trust.
The opportunity across the region is significant, and we’re excited to continue building alongside our colleagues across Venterra Group.
At the heart of our new facility is our commitment to our people. With modern workspaces and extra amenities, including an on-site gym, we’ve created a space that supports wellbeing and team collaboration, making Oceanscan a great place to work.”
The expansion aligns with Venterra Group’s broader strategy of strengthening regional capability and follows a standout year of growth for Oceanscan across Europe, during which the subsea business doubled in size and set the stage for continued ambitious growth in 2026.
Supported by its international operations in Houston and Singapore, the new Aberdeen facility further positions Oceanscan to deliver responsive local support while serving projects across international offshore markets.
