The Buddy ROV Tether Management System (TMS) is a reliable and robust system designed for situations where workclass ROVs and divers are unable to access a worksite due to distance from a platform or adverse subsea conditions. The TMS is designed to manage the tether for small ROVs in difficult environments, providing a safe means of controlling and powering the ROV without the complexities of sliprings or oil compensation systems.

This system can be attached to a workclass ROV, drawing hydraulic power from its valve pack. The power and telemetry are then supplied through a subsea bottle with a twisted pair to a fibre mux, which interfaces with the Micro ROV controller topside. The TMS eliminates the need for sliprings, reducing the number of failure points and minimizing maintenance costs, making it an effective solution for challenging subsea operations.

The TMS is designed with a plastic tether drum and plastic drive gears, enhancing durability while keeping the overall system lightweight. It was developed around the VideoPro4 ROV system, known for its reliability and ease of navigation in tight spaces. The system has been successfully deployed in offshore operations, where it has assisted in carrying out CP contact, proximity, GVI, and CVI tasks in areas that were previously difficult to reach.
