ORION OPTIMAL RANGING ORION TRACKING SYSTEM

ORION is Optimal Ranging Inc. new flagship product for Underwater Utility Surveying…

The Orion system is an advanced underwater utility survey tool designed to optimize data from various sensors for accurate Depth of Burial (DOB) surveys of cables and pipelines. Using model-based processing, the system measures the magnetic field produced by utilities carrying an AC tone, either actively applied or passively present, to accurately estimate the depth and position of buried utilities. Orion is equipped with advanced features to mitigate interference from multiple nearby pipelines or cables, ensuring reliable and accurate results even in complex environments.

Key features include:

  • Sensors: The Orion system supports 2, 4, or 6 sensors at arbitrary orientations and relative positions.

  • Simultaneous Target Tracking: Capable of tracking up to 3 utilities simultaneously, with support for both passive and active tones.

  • Depth of Burial Accuracy: The system offers highly accurate Depth of Burial measurements with a 95% confidence interval.

  • Magnetic Field Sensitivity: 1 mA/m at 100 Hz with a maximum measurable AC magnetic field strength of 250 A/m (optional sensors available up to 800 A/m).

  • Survey Speed: Max survey speed of up to 2 knots.

  • Deployment Methods: The system can be ROV mounted, towed, or deployed with a fixed hull or depressor wing.

  • Depth Rating: 600 meters.

  • Power Supply: 8-30 VDC with a maximum power dissipation of 10 watts (exclusive of peripherals).

Additional features:

  • Tone Generator: A portable tone generator allows for AC current tone injection with adjustable frequency (20-1000 Hz).

  • Software Compatibility: Orion is compatible with popular survey software such as HYPACK, EIVA, QPS, and others.

  • Confidence Based on Depth: Orion provides continuous real-time estimates of horizontal offset, vertical depth, and impressed AC current for all tracked utilities.
