Rovins is a high-performance inertial navigation system (INS) designed for subsea vehicles operating at depths up to 3,000 meters. Built on Exail’s fiber-optic gyroscope (FOG) technology and enhanced with an advanced Kalman filter, Rovins delivers precise real-time georeferenced positioning, heading, and attitude data critical for offshore survey and construction operations. It supports integration with external sensors such as DVL, USBL, LBL, GPS, depth sensors, and more. The system is available as a standalone unit or in a “DVL ready” configuration, offering sub-metric accuracy through sparse array capabilities. It features multiple serial and Ethernet interfaces, supports over 130 communication protocols, and outputs data at rates up to 200 Hz. The system is lightweight, encased in corrosion-resistant titanium, and compatible with the Octans footprint, simplifying vehicle integration. Rovins achieves heading accuracy down to 0.04° RMS with GNSS and DVL aiding, and roll/pitch accuracy of 0.01° RMS without aiding. It maintains robust performance even during sensor dropout, with drift-controlled behavior for up to 120 seconds. Its modular design allows for flexible configurations, OEM options, and post-processing capabilities, ensuring adaptability across a wide range of subsea missions.
